STORY OF ATUH BEACH
Atuh Beach Story
Atuh Beach, or Pantai Atuh, has a rich and unique history. The name "Atuh" comes from two words in the Balinese language, 'a' meaning 'not' and 'tuh' meaning 'dry'. In this context, "Atuh" means 'not dry', which reflects the freshwater sources near the beach that remain fresh even during the dry season. The beach is also surrounded by temples that are often used as places of worship by the local community. Atuh Beach offers stunning views with white sand and towering cliffs. In the middle of the sea, there is a large rock known as Batu Melawang, which has a hole at its tip. This rock not only adds to the beauty of the beach but also serves as a planting spot for the local community.
To reach Atuh Beach, tourists need to cross from mainland Bali to Sampalan or Toyapakeh Harbor in Nusa Penida using a fast boat from Sanur. After that, the journey to this beach takes about 1-1.5 hours from the harbor. The beach offers a different experience with steeper access and spectacular natural attractions.
Atuh Beach is the perfect place to relax, swim, or simply enjoy the sea breeze. Although the waves are relatively calm, visitors are advised to be careful and pay attention to the tidal conditions.
